Rock Creek Corner carries on a tradition that dates back to the 1940s: a one-of-a-kind oasis of good times and grownup fun on the westernmost edge of the city.

Once a lonely outpost far from town, Rock Creek Café & Pub, also called George’s by long time regulars, was a beacon of good times out among farms and fields. Homes and business parks grew out to meet it at the very edge of the Urban Growth Boundary … and so did the chains and strip malls.

In September 2007, Robert and Christy Bennett-Hanes bought the rough-looking stucco building from nearby Mad Greek Deli owner George Athanasakis – not to change it but to restore it to its independent charm.

They threw open the windows, re-sided the exterior with wood from a nearby barn, and brought the long-dormant restaurant side back to life. They kept old favorites on the menu and added new, from-scratch recipes. They freshened up the look and feel to welcome new neighbors, while keeping the qualities that old-time customers still love.

Today, a new Rock Creek Corner welcomes a new clientele of fun-loving Portlanders – families, working folks, bikers and everyone in between who craves a more personal experience – to enjoy a new take on a classic roadhouse.
